Restoring Sight, Restoring Hope: Recheo Health Foundation in Bariga

For many children, good health is often taken for granted. But for the pupils of Ladi-Lac and Ayinke Primary Schools in Bariga, Lagos State, the reality is different. Poor access to healthcare means that simple health issues often go unnoticed, slowly stealing away opportunities to learn, play, and dream.

In June and July 2025, Recheo Health Foundation stepped in with a mission: to bring healthcare closer to these children. What we witnessed was both heartbreaking and inspiring.
110 pupils were screened during the outreach. Behind every number was a child with a unique story, a face lit with curiosity, and sometimes, eyes clouded with pain.
38 children were found to have sight problems. Many had been struggling quietly in class, unable to read the board or keep up with their peers. For the first time, they were fitted with corrective glasses and provided eye drops. Their smiles when they could finally see clearly were priceless.
One case stood out: a young pupil living with a painful growth in the eye called Pterygium. Without treatment, this condition could have led to lasting damage. Thanks to timely intervention, surgery was carried out, giving the child a renewed chance at a healthy life.

This outreach was more than just a medical exercise. it was a gift of dignity and possibility. For the children, it meant being able to see the world in focus again. For the teachers, it meant watching their pupils participate fully in class. And for us at Recheo Health Foundation, it reaffirmed why we do what we do: because every child deserves the right to good health and a future filled with hope.
